South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen retires from international cricket

JOHANNESBURG: South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a career spanning all three formats in which he established himself as a dependable middle-order presence.

Van der Dussen shared the news through a social media post, reflecting on his career in an emotional message as he stepped away from the international stage.

The right-handed batter made his international debut on October 9, 2018, in a T20 International against Zimbabwe, and quickly went on to become a regular feature in South Africa’s line-up across formats.

Over the course of his career, he played 57 Twenty20 internationals, 71 One Day Internationals and 18 Tests, contributing with a reputation for composure and reliability, particularly in pressure situations.

His final international appearance came on Aug. 16, 2025, against Australia, marking the end of a run in which he often anchored innings and provided stability to South Africa’s batting order.

Among his standout performances was a century against New Zealand during the 2023 Cricket World Cup, where he scored a commanding 133, an innings widely regarded as one of the highlights of his international career.

Van der Dussen also made his mark in franchise and league cricket, including scoring a century in the Pakistan Super League, further underlining his adaptability across conditions and formats.

Known for his calm temperament and ability to build innings, he became a key figure in South Africa’s limited-overs setup and a dependable option in high-stakes matches.
