Spanish family missing after tourist boat sinks

MADRID: A Spanish family of four went missing after a tourist boat carrying 11 people sank off the coast of Indonesia amid rough weather, officials said on Saturday.

According to Indonesia’s state news agency Antara, the incident occurred late on Friday when the vessel capsized after being hit by waves as high as three metres in the Padar Island Strait near Labuan Bajo, a popular tourist destination.

The remaining passengers — two other Spanish tourists, four crew members and a tour guide — were rescued safely, Antara reported, citing local port authorities.

Spain’s foreign ministry told Reuters that Indonesian rescue teams had launched a search operation for the missing family.
