‘Spider Noir’ trailer brings Nicolas Cage’s hard-boiled detective to life

Spider Noir

The first trailer for Spider-Noir has arrived, and it leans fully into one thing fans did not know they needed more of: Nicolas Cage as a trench-coat-wearing, hard-boiled private investigator with a superhero problem.

The live-action series, heading to Prime Video, expands on the Spider-Man Noir character Cage voiced in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, this time placing him at the centre of a full noir mystery set in 1930s New York.

In Spider-Noir, Cage plays Ben Reilly, a down-on-his-luck detective grappling with personal tragedy while secretly operating as the city’s only superhero. The trailer showcases a smoky, black-and-white aesthetic straight out of classic film noir, complete with voiceover monologues, shadowy alleyways and Cage delivering lines with unmistakable theatrical flair.

The footage shows Cage’s Spider-Noir swinging across the city skyline in a fedora and trench coat, brawling with goons in dimly lit bars and embracing the melodrama that has made both the genre and the actor cult favourites. One line in particular sets the tone: “With no power comes no responsibility.”

While the premise sounds grim, the trailer plays heavily into humour and stylised excess. From exaggerated fight choreography to Cage’s gravelly line delivery, the series appears to balance brooding noir tropes with playful self-awareness.

The show will be presented in both black and white and colour, giving viewers the option to experience the series as a classic noir homage or a more modern superhero drama.

Alongside Cage, the cast includes Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Brendan Gleeson, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola and Jack Huston.

Spider-Noir is set to premiere on May 27, offering fans a darker, stranger and distinctly Cage-fuelled corner of the Spider-Man universe ahead of the next animated film instalment.
