WEB DESK: Toyota is gearing up to launch the next-generation Fortuner, and new spy images offer a glimpse of the SUV’s front-end design. Earlier, test mules in Thailand mainly exposed the rear, but these latest photos highlight how the iconic SUV is evolving while maintaining its rugged identity.
The recent spy shots capture the Fortuner mule in a convoy, flanked by a Hilux and a Legender. Observers have noted that the front fascia seems to draw inspiration from the 9th-generation Hilux, particularly its bold “Cyber Sumo” styling. Despite heavy camouflage, some details are visible: the headlamps appear Hilux-inspired, though the DRLs are slimmer, and a fibre applique runs between the lights, likely to display the Toyota badge on the production model. A large rectangular grille dominates the front, with a mesh pattern hinting at a strong familial resemblance to the Hilux.

Other subtle differences set the Fortuner apart, including a wide air dam and a front bumper that appears distinct from the Hilux’s. Spy shots also reveal radar and camera units, confirming the inclusion of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Despite sharper styling, the SUV retains its squared-off bonnet and upright stance, keeping the muscular proportions that have made it a favorite in markets like India.
SIDE PROFILE AND REAR UPDATES
Interestingly, the side profile remains largely familiar, with minimal changes to the window and roofline. Functional roof rails and side steps are expected to carry over. The rear, however, adopts a broader stance with sleeker tail lamps likely joined by an illuminated bar. A new rear bumper design adds to the modernised look.
Platform, Powertrains, and Interiors
The new Fortuner will continue on an upgraded IMV platform, shared with the latest Hilux, keeping overall dimensions similar to the current model. Toyota is likely to offer multiple powertrain options globally, but in India, it is expected to retain the 2.7L petrol and 2.8L turbo diesel engines, with manual and automatic options. A 48V mild-hybrid diesel could arrive later.

Inside, the cabin is set for a significant overhaul. Expect a fully digital 12.3-inch driver display, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, OTA software updates, and improved overall fit and finish. ADAS and other modern features will further elevate the Fortuner’s premium appeal.
LAUNCH OUTLOOK
The next-generation Fortuner is anticipated to debut globally in mid-2026, with India receiving the SUV shortly after. With its commanding presence in the full-size SUV segment, the updated Fortuner is poised to remain one of the most eagerly awaited launches of the year.
