Sri Lanka, after winning the toss, chose to bat first in the 21st ODI clash of the tournament. Openers Vishmi and Chamari stepped in to start the innings. Vishmi fell early to Marufa Akter for a duck, while Chamari provided stability with a 43-ball 46 before being dismissed by Rabeya. Her crucial knock gave much-needed confidence to the hosts, who were yet to secure a win in the event.

Hasini Perera then powered the innings with an impressive 99-ball 85, guiding Sri Lanka to a competitive total. Nilakshi de Silva contributed 37 runs off 38 balls, while the remaining batters managed only 30 collectively. However, four extras from Bangladeshi bowlers helped Sri Lanka reach a total of 202 all out.

Bangladesh began their chase with Fargana Hoque and Rubya Haider opening the innings. Both struggled as Fargana managed just 7 off 35 balls and Rubya departed without scoring.

Sharmin Akhter and Sobhana Mostary tried to rebuild, with Sharmin anchoring the innings through a steady 103-ball 64. Sobhana, however, fell early for 8 to Sugandika. Skipper Nigar Sultana then played a captain’s knock of 77 runs off 98 balls, taking Bangladesh to 155 before being dismissed by Chamari.

The lower order failed to capitalize, adding only 29 more runs. Eleven extras from Sri Lankan bowlers lifted Bangladesh’s total to 195 all out in 50 overs — just seven runs short of the target.

With this victory, Sri Lanka marked their first success of the World Cup campaign, regaining momentum in the tournament.
