Strike ends as Punjab govt and transporters reach deal

LAHORE: The Punjab government and transporters have reached an agreement, with the government suspending all fines imposed for violations.

Punjab’s Transport Minister Bilal Akrbar said talks with transporters had been ongoing for two days following the transport strike.

He said that no consultations had taken place before the introduction of the Traffic Ordinance 2025.

He said the Traffic Ordinance 2025 is being withdrawn for now, and a committee has been formed to resolve the transporters’ issues.

He said that fines imposed under the ordinance are also being suspended for now.

It is worth mentioning that several bus terminals across Lahore and other parts of Punjab remained closed due to the wheel-jam strike by transporters, causing severe difficulties for passengers.

Earlier, responding to the strike call, Punjab IG Dr Usman Anwar had said that driving without a licence is tantamount to inviting death and accidents, and that the government would not succumb to any blackmail when it comes to protecting the lives of schoolchildren.
