ISLAMABAD: The Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on Friday marked the first anniversary of its communication satellite, PAKSAT MM1, which was launched into geostationary orbit on May 30, 2024.
The event was commemorated by the SUPARCO, highlighting the satellite’s successful operation over the past year.
Developed in collaboration with China, PAKSAT MM1 is seen as a milestone in Pakistan’s pursuit of technological independence and broader digital access.
Over the last 12 months, the satellite has played a critical role in expanding high-speed broadband services across the country, especially in remote and underserved regions.
The satellite has supported key national sectors including telecommunications, e-learning, telemedicine, and disaster response. With its advanced high-throughput capacity, PAKSAT MM1 has enabled reliable satellite-based internet and communication services in areas lacking traditional infrastructure.
It has also helped bridge the digital divide by empowering local communities and facilitating both government and private sector initiatives aimed at enhancing digital connectivity.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of SUPARCO expressed pride in the achievements made possible by PAKSAT MM1. He described the satellite as a symbol of the nation’s commitment to space technology and a vision of a connected and resilient Pakistan.
