Supreme Court Bar Association announces nationwide strike

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has announced a nationwide strike on September 14. There will be a peaceful protest in bar councils across the country on September 14, the SCBA said. The protest will be held to protect the supremacy of the constitution, the rule of law, and fundamental rights, the SCBA said.

Earlier, The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), the top regulatory body of lawyers in the country, on Tuesday asked the president to fulfil his constitutional duty by announcing the election date, as per the constitutional requirement.

In a statement issued after the All Pakistan Lawyers’ Conference, the PBC urged all the major political parties to take necessary steps to ensure the timely holding of elections and the smooth transition of power.

The statement said that the legal fraternity would not be used for any political party’s agenda and would remain neutral.
