Noman Ijaz says Surah Rehman played key role in cancer recovery

WEB DESK: Senior Pakistani actor Noman Ijaz has revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer in June 2024, saying daily recitation of Surah Rehman became an important part of his recovery journey.

Speaking during a recent podcast, Ijaz opened up about his illness, treatment and the emotional challenges he faced after learning about his diagnosis.

He said doctors detected a tumour near his ear, while lymphoma was also found in his stomach.

After learning about his condition, Ijaz said he prayed to Allah for mercy and began undergoing treatment. He recalled that the hospital visits, chemotherapy and other difficulties were less concerning to him than seeing his family suffer because of his illness.

The actor said he would often fear that he might not wake up the next morning. He therefore began reciting different Quranic verses and prayers before going to sleep.

According to Ijaz, his friend Gohar Butt advised him to recite Surah Rehman. He followed the advice and started reciting the Surah every day.

Ijaz said the daily recitation became a key part of his recovery journey and remained an important source of comfort during his illness.

He said the tumour near his ear was eventually removed through surgery, while subsequent scans showed that the lymphoma previously detected in his stomach was no longer visible.

Ijaz said doctors had planned to start his chemotherapy in July, but the results of the later scans came as a surprise to him.

The actor expressed gratitude to Allah for his recovery and the positive results of his treatment.
