RAWALPINDI: In line with the directives of Chief Minister (CM) Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, a comprehensive cleanliness initiative has been set in motion across the entire Rawalpindi district, including Murree, announced Rana Sajid Safdar, Chief Executive Officer of Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), on Thursday.

Emphasising the significance of the ‘Saf Suthra Punjab’ project, Safdar highlighted that RWMC’s operational staff had already commenced efforts to liberate Rawalpindi from waste.

The team is actively engaged in cleaning open plots, cemeteries, recreational areas, parks, bus stands, major roads, intersections, and other key locations throughout the city.

Safdar underscored the commitment to enforcing stringent measures against any staff found neglectful, ensuring that no garbage or standing water disrupts the city’s cleanliness.

According to The News, he reiterated the goal of achieving zero waste by employing both manual and mechanical sweeping, with special attention to washing roads and eliminating bushes and weeds in open plots and cemeteries.

To effectively communicate the importance of cleanliness, RWMC’s communication and social mobilisation teams will conduct outreach activities, visiting households, markets, mosques, and educational institutions.

Safdar announced the organisation of walks, seminars, and the distribution of pamphlets, aiming to raise awareness and encourage residents to contribute to making Rawalpindi an environmentally friendly district.

Addressing citizen concerns, Safdar urged residents to report any issues by calling the helpline number 1139, ensuring prompt rectification of complaints.

He concluded by appealing to the public not to dispose of garbage and plastic bags in nullahs and drains, assuring that RWMC is fully committed to utilising all available resources to maintain the city’s cleanliness.
