DUBAI: Pakistan currently sits at the second position in Group A of the T20 World Cup, thanks their net run rate (NRR), but a three-way tie in points with New Zealand and India means that each game can change the landscape of the tournament.
After beating Sri Lanka and losing to India, Pakistan have made two points, with two games left to go. New Zealand and India also have also won one game each, with the former beating the latter, making a three-way tie in points. Sri Lanka lays at the bottom of the table with no real hopes of advancing, needing to win both their next games, and for Pakistan, New Zealand, and India to lose theirs all of theirs. Australia is sitting pretty at the top.
With a NRR of +2.524, they have all but secured their place in the semi-finals. One more win would likely seal the deal.

England sits at the top of group B, in a similar position to Australia, although with a lower NRR. Beneath them is a three-way tie in points between West Indies, South Africa, and Bangladesh, each with two points. As the West Indies have the best NRR, they may be able to steal the top spot if they manage to win their remaining two games and England loses theirs. Scotland sits at the bottom of the table having lost both their matches.
If Sri Lanka continue their losing ways and are defeated by India in their game on Thursday, or by the Kiwis in their game on Saturday, Pakistan will need to win one of their next two games. They play the current group leader, Australia, on Friday, and play the third place New Zealand on Monday.
If either India or New Zealand win both of their upcoming games, Pakistan will have to do the same. It’s a tall task, as Australia has shown their pedigree, handedly defeating both Sri Lanka and New Zealand with ease.
Megan Schutt has been leading the domineering bowling pressure of the Aussies, as neither of their opponents were able to score 100 runs. They beat New Zealand by 60 runs on Tuesday, and had six wickets in hand with 34 balls remaining when they beat Sri Lanka on October 5.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semi finals will take place on October 17 and 18, with the final set for October 20.
