AHMEDABAD, India: South Africa produced a clinical performance to thrash West Indies by nine wickets in a key Super Eight clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday.
West Indies, sent in to bat after losing the toss, posted 176 for eight in their 20 overs, thanks to a record partnership between Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd. After a shaky start with early wickets falling, the pair steadied the innings and stitched together 89 runs for the eighth wicket – a record for West Indies in T20 Internationals.
Holder top-scored with 49 before being run out in the final over, while Shepherd remained unbeaten on 52, marking his first T20I half-century.
For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi led the attack with three wickets, supported by Kagiso Rabada and Corbin Bosch, who claimed two wickets each.
Chasing 177, South Africa’s batting was flawless. Captain Aiden Markram anchored the chase with 82, while Rassie van der Dussen contributed 45 not out. Opener David Dekker scored 47 before falling, but the target was reached comfortably with just one wicket down.
The Proteas’ dominant display kept them unbeaten in the Super Eight stage and strengthened their bid for a semi-final spot.
