AHMEDABAD, India: South Africa won the toss and chose to field in a high-stakes Super Eight encounter against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Unchanged from the side that outclassed India in their previous game, South Africa have stuck with a winning combination as they look to seal a place in the semi-finals.
West Indies captain Shai Hope admitted he would have preferred to bowl first as well. The Caribbean side have made one change, with Roston Chase returning to the XI in place of Akeal Hosein. Hope clarified that Hosein had not been dropped, but the tweak was made keeping the opposition in mind.
Both teams have been unbeaten in the tournament so far. After winning all four of their group-stage matches, they began the Super Eight phase with commanding victories. South Africa hammered India by 76 runs, while West Indies thrashed Zimbabwe by 107 runs.
The equation is simple: the winner of this contest will book a semi-final berth.
Later in the evening, India face Zimbabwe in the other Group 1 fixture. Although both sides progressed through the group stage unbeaten, they suffered defeats in their respective opening Super Eight matches. The loser of that clash will be knocked out of the semi-final race.
