Veteran Pakistani singer Tahira Syed has responded to rumours of her death after false reports circulated on social media, prompting concern among fans and fellow artists.

The renowned ghazal and folk singer addressed the claims in a video message, assuring supporters that she was healthy and continuing her life in New York.

“I have come to know that rumours are being spread about my health. I am absolutely fine, by the grace of God. I am living a really good life in New York. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes,” she said.

Syed also shared a written statement rejecting reports of her death and urging people not to spread unverified information.

“I have come to learn that false reports of my passing are being circulated on social media. These are not true. Alhamdulillah, I am alive, well and in good health,” she wrote.

The singer thanked friends, family members and admirers who reached out after seeing the reports, saying she was touched by the concern shown during the incident.

As speculation spread online, several public figures helped counter the misinformation. Designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin shared a photograph of Syed and confirmed that she was alive and well, while actor Bushra Ansari reposted the singer’s video message for her followers.

The episode highlights how quickly false reports about public figures can spread online before being verified.

Widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s most respected voices in ghazal and folk music, Syed used the opportunity to urge social media users to verify information before sharing it and to help correct misinformation whenever they encounter it.
