WEB DESK: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, while commenting on a firing incident in Rawalpindi, criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accusing it of resorting to violence.

Earlier in the day, security forces killed a suspect involved in the firing on Mall Road, Rawalpindi, during a timely operation, according to security sources.

The suspect, who was a resident of Khyber district, was an “active PTI member”, the sources said. A party flag, weapons, ammunition and important documents were also recovered from his possession, they added.

Commenting on the incident, the information minister said there was no justification for the PTI worker, from whom the party flag and other documents were recovered, to open fire on a security official.

Tarar said the PTI did not believe in peaceful protests and that the nation had already witnessed its objectives and intentions. He also accused the PTI of killing police and Rangers personnel during its protests.

He also commented on the long march announced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who has categorically said it will take place on September 27.

Tarar said the party could not tolerate Pakistan’s progress, adding, “They want to spread anarchy in the country and destroy law and order.”

The minister added that violence was part of the PTI’s ideology and that the party had always pursued a politics of violence, saying that none of its protests had been peaceful.

Tarar added that it had been established that every PTI protest was driven by ulterior motives and that the party wanted to harm the country by disrupting law and order.
