Tatis sparks Padres win after lineup change

PARIS: Fernando Tatis Jr delivered a timely response after San Diego Padres manager Craig Stammen adjusted the lineup, helping his team secure a 4-2 win over the St Louis Cardinals.

Despite going hitless Friday in a 6-0 loss where the Padres were limited to just one hit, Stammen backed Tatis’ approach and moved him back to the No. 2 spot in the batting order. The decision paid off quickly on Saturday as Tatis came through with a crucial two-run single that proved decisive in the victory.

Tatis, who is still searching for his first home run of the season through 39 games, has faced scrutiny over his slow power start. However, Stammen praised his progress at the plate and confidence against pitchers.

“I feel like he’s making some good decisions at the plate,” Stammen said, noting that pitchers still respect his presence even without home runs.

So far this season, Tatis is batting .248 with 15 RBIs and nine stolen bases, continuing to contribute with speed and situational hitting.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s series finale, the Padres will rely on Walker Buehler (2-2, 5.64), while the Cardinals counter with Kyle Leahy (4-3, 4.93). San Diego will aim to salvage a split after a tightly contested series.
