Taylor Swift has made a bold creative statement with her latest single, “Elizabeth Taylor,” releasing a music video that features only archival footage of the legendary actress. Swift herself is entirely absent, letting clips of Taylor’s iconic performances convey the song’s emotional narrative.
The video draws from classic films like Cleopatra, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Giant, Father of the Bride, A Place in the Sun, Suddenly, Last Summer, and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, seamlessly edited to align with Swift’s lyrics. Moments such as Taylor reading a letter, expressing anguish with her signature violet eyes, or flaunting her famed jewelry, echo lines like “And if your letters ever said ‘goodbye’” and “All my white diamonds and lovers are forever.”
Exclusively streaming on Spotify and Apple Music, the video acknowledges House of Taylor & the Elizabeth Taylor Trust and the families of her late husbands, Mike Todd and Michael Wilding.
“Elizabeth Taylor” is the third single from Swift’s album The Life of a Showgirl, following Opalite and The Fate of Ophelia, and has quickly become a standout for its celebration of Hollywood glamour and cinematic storytelling.
