Taylor Swift continues her chart dominance as The Life of a Showgirl spends a second consecutive week at No. 1 on the Albums Chart, while her single The Fate of Ophelia retains its top spot despite rising competition from Olivia Dean.
Remarkably, The Life of a Showgirl has gone platinum in just two weeks, a rare feat in today’s streaming-driven market. Swift’s last album, The Tortured Poets Department, achieved the same milestone but took slightly longer, underscoring her enduring commercial power.
In New Zealand, rapper Tom Scott has debuted at No. 1 on the Top20 Aotearoa Albums Chart with his solo album ANITYA, which also entered the overall Albums Chart at No. 4. Scott, already a chart veteran with Home Brew and Avantdale Bowling Club, cements his solo breakthrough.
Meanwhile, Hori Shaw and Te Wehi hold the No. 1 spot on the Aotearoa Singles Chart for a ninth non-consecutive week with Ready to Ride, while Te Tira Waiata o Te Pukawai lead the Te Reo Māori Singles Chart with Tōku Reo Tōku Ohooho. On the Hot40 Chart, Eyes Closed, a collaboration between BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and Zayn Malik, takes the top spot, marking a powerful global crossover.
Earlier in August, Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce announced their engagement, turning a private proposal into a global headline. Kelce proposed Swift in a garden setting, sharing the news with fans on Tuesday through a joint Instagram post that featured a slideshow of photographs.
The slideshow also featured the ring Kelce placed on Swift’s finger — a large diamond set in gold.
