Tech valley partners with HUM News to launch “Digital Sahafat 2.0” for AI-powered journalism

ISLAMABAD: Tech Valley has entered into a strategic partnership with HUM News Network to equip journalists with cutting-edge tools, training, and resources for digital storytelling and news verification. The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at HUM News headquarters in Islamabad.

The MoU was signed by CEO of Tech Valley Pakistan, Umar Farooq in the presence of CEO of HUM Network, Duraid Qureshi, and Director News at HUM News, Rehan Ahmed. Also attending were Sameen Aziz, Project Manager of Digital Sahafat at Tech Valley, along with the broader Tech Valley team.

“This partnership with Tech Valley marks a pivotal step in empowering HUM News journalists with cutting-edge AI tools to enhance news verification and storytelling across the web. Our goal is to blend Pakistan’s finest storytelling with world-class technology to ensure a more informed society while maintaining the highest standards of editorial integrity,” said Duraid Qureshi.

The initiative, named Digital Sahafat 2.0, is part of a nationwide program by Google and Tech Valley aimed at upskilling journalists and media students across Pakistan. Under the partnership, HUM News professionals in Islamabad, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, and Lahore will receive targeted training on Google AI resources to produce engaging digital stories.

Speaking about the program, Umar Farooq said, “Digital Sahafat 2.0 is our commitment to closing the digital divide. By partnering with HUM News, we are proving that when you combine Pakistan’s best storytellers with the world’s best technology, you get a more informed and empowered society.”

The program will focus on AI tools including Gemini, NotebookLM, PinPoint, and advanced verification techniques to enhance newsroom workflows and reporting efficiency.

The partnership noted that technology is meant to empower, not replace, the human element of storytelling. By focusing on the ethical use of AI, Tech Valley and HUM News aim to ensure that evolving newsrooms remain anchored in accuracy and editorial integrity.
