Teen beggars apprehended as part of rehabilitation drive

PESHAWAR: Responding to the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) orders, the district administration has launched a targeted initiative against child beggars in the city, Express Tribune reported on Wednesday.

Approximately 15 teenage beggars were apprehended from key locations like University Road and the Saddar area. Following the arrests, these minors were handed over to the Social Welfare Department for a structured rehabilitation process.

The PHC’s specific directives highlighted the need to address child beggars, especially those active in various parts of the city, particularly during the evening hours. The collaborative efforts of the district administration and the Social Welfare Department resulted in successful apprehensions in different areas, aligning with the court’s instructions.

Shedding light on the rehabilitation process, an official revealed, “In the rehabilitation centers, these children are provided with practical skills before being released under personal surety.”
