TEHRAN: Iran said on Sunday that it has received a response from the United States to its latest peace proposal and is currently reviewing it, according to Iranian state media.
The report said Washington conveyed its reply through Pakistan, though there was no immediate confirmation from either the United States or Islamabad.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said “at this stage, we do not have nuclear negotiations,” referring to Tehran’s proposal to defer talks on its nuclear programme until after broader issues, including the war and maritime tensions, are addressed.
The development comes after President Donald Trump suggested he would likely reject Iran’s proposal, saying Tehran had not “paid a big enough price” for past actions, while also indicating he was still reviewing its contents.
Iran’s 14-point proposal reportedly calls for an end to hostilities, lifting of sanctions and blockades, unfreezing of assets, and a framework to manage disputes over Gulf shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.
The US position, meanwhile, continues to focus on strict limits to Iran’s nuclear programme, including demands over its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, which Washington says could be used for weapons development.
Diplomatic efforts remain stalled, with no agreement yet on further rounds of talks despite earlier indirect engagement mediated through Pakistan.
