Belarus tractors production in Pakistan

WEB DESK: Thatta Cement Company Limited (THCCL) has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Minsk Work Tractor & Assembling (Private) Limited (MWTA), has entered into an exclusive agreement with OJSC Minsk Tractor Works, Belarus, to assemble and locally manufacture Belarus tractors in Balochistan.

The company shared the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday, describing it as a strategic milestone that will boost local industrial growth and technology transfer in the province.

Boost for agriculture and industry

Under the agreement, Minsk Tractor Works has granted MWTA exclusive rights to assemble Belarus tractors in Balochistan. The collaboration marks an important breakthrough for Pakistan’s agricultural and industrial sectors, which are increasingly shifting towards mechanisation to improve productivity and crop yields.

Belarus tractors, known for their durability and simple design, have been a trusted name in global farming machinery since 1950. Produced by Minsk Tractor Works, these machines are exported to over 100 countries and are recognised for their ease of maintenance and adaptability to different terrains.

Industry estimates suggest that the market potential for locally assembled Belarus tractors could reach up to 2,800 units over the next five years, reflecting strong demand for efficient and high-power agricultural machinery across the country.

Creating jobs and building local capacity

Thatta Cement said the initiative will play a key role in promoting local manufacturing, creating employment opportunities, and facilitating the transfer of modern industrial technology to Balochistan.

“The agreement signifies a major strategic development for the company’s subsidiary and is expected to have a positive impact on the long-term growth and diversification of Thatta Cement Group’s business portfolio,” the statement read.

The project also reflects a growing trend among Pakistani corporations to diversify into sectors beyond their traditional domains, using their industrial expertise and resources to contribute to national development.

Expanding beyond cement

Established in 1980, Thatta Cement Company Limited is known for its role in cement manufacturing and marketing in Pakistan. The company also owns Thatta Power (Private) Limited and continues to explore new ventures that strengthen its position as a diversified industrial group.

With this agreement, Thatta Cement has not only taken a step towards expanding its business horizons but has also positioned itself as a partner in Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to modernise agriculture and promote self-reliance in industrial production.

Medes: Thatta Cement’s venture to assemble Belarus tractors in Balochistan aims to drive local manufacturing, job creation, and agricultural innovation.
