The end of Amazon Prime Video’s hit superhero series The Boys is officially in sight.
The streamer has released the first trailer for the fifth and final season, offering a dark glimpse of what lies ahead as the story heads toward its explosive conclusion.
Season five will begin streaming on April 8, with the first two episodes dropping on launch day. The series finale is scheduled for May 20, marking the end of one of Prime Video’s most successful and controversial shows.
Homelander takes control in the final season
According to the official synopsis, the new season takes place in a world increasingly shaped by Homelander’s power and influence.
The story finds several members of the group known as the Boys facing dire circumstances, while others attempt to resist the growing dominance of the powerful Supe faction.
Meanwhile, Billy Butcher returns with a dangerous plan involving a virus capable of wiping out Supes entirely, setting off events that could change the fate of the world.
Returning cast reunites for the final chapter
The final season brings back many familiar faces from the series, including Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford and Tomer Capone.
Also returning are Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry and Daveed Diggs, alongside Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles.
From comic book series to global streaming hit
The Boys is based on the comic book series created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson and developed for television by showrunner Eric Kripke.
Executive producers include Kripke, Ennis, Robertson, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Phil Sgriccia, among others.
Since its debut, the show has built a global following thanks to its brutal satire of superhero culture and political power.
The final season now promises to bring the long-running conflict between the Boys and the Supes to a dramatic conclusion.
