The heartbreaking reason Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster have reportedly paused wedding plans

Actor Hugh Jackman and Broadway star Sutton Foster were reportedly moving quickly toward marriage, but new claims suggest the couple’s wedding plans have now been paused for an emotional reason involving Jackman’s family.

The pair, who starred together in the Broadway revival of The Music Man from 2021 to 2023, first sparked romance rumours in late 2024. Their relationship became public in January 2025 after they were photographed holding hands during a dinner outing in Santa Monica.

Earlier reports suggested Jackman had already proposed and that the couple were planning a wedding. However, a new report from National Enquirer claims those plans have been put on hold as the actor navigates the feelings of his children.

According to the outlet, Jackman’s children remain strongly supportive of their mother, Deborra-Lee Furness, following the former couple’s separation, and have struggled to fully embrace their father’s new relationship.

“Hugh really wants his kids at the wedding. They both want their loved ones with them to celebrate,” an unnamed source told the publication.

The insider added that although Jackman is excited about his future with Foster, he wants to remain sensitive to how his children feel.

“Even though Hugh is excited to start this next chapter with Sutton, he has to be sensitive to his kids. They’re incredibly protective of their mother. He wants to be respectful of that,” the source said.

According to the report, Jackman does not want to move forward with the ceremony unless his children are comfortable attending.

Rumours of a possible wedding first surfaced in January when another insider told New Idea magazine that the couple were planning to tie the knot and possibly travel to Europe for their honeymoon.

The source claimed Jackman had asked his team to keep time open in his schedule so the couple could organise a ceremony and visit his mother during the trip.

At the time, the pair were reportedly considering a small, intimate ceremony in New York during the spring or summer, with many of their theatre friends expected to attend.

Another insider said the couple had been eager to move forward after spending a long time keeping their relationship private.

“They spent so long feeling like they couldn’t live out loud, but now that they are finally a public couple, things are moving very quickly,” the source said.
