WEB DESK: Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has announced his retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), bringing an end to a 10-year association with the country’s premier T20 tournament.

Sharing the news on social media platform X on Tuesday, Malik reflected on his long PSL journey, saying the league had given him memories and friendships that would stay with him for life. “Every moment on and off the field has been special,” he wrote, adding that the time had come for him to step away as a player. He thanked the PSL for the opportunities and experiences that shaped his career in the competition.

Despite retiring from the league, Malik stressed that his commitment to cricket remains strong. He said his passion to contribute to the game’s development would continue in other capacities, signalling that his involvement in Pakistan cricket is far from over.

Malik’s PSL retirement follows another major decision last year, when he stepped down as Domestic Cricket Mentor in May 2025. At the time, he said the move was necessary to ensure fairness and to better manage his growing personal and professional responsibilities.

One of the most experienced players in the league’s history, Malik featured for multiple franchises during his PSL career, including Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. According to ESPNcricinfo, he played 93 PSL matches and amassed 2,350 runs, making him one of the tournament’s most consistent performers over the years.

Malik’s departure marks the end of an era, as one of Pakistan cricket’s most seasoned all-rounders closes a memorable chapter in the PSL.
