Third case of mpox confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa


At least 25 cases of a dangerous new strain of mpox spreading through the Democratic Republic of Congo have been detected in the eastern city of Goma, mostly in camps housing people fleeing a surrounding conflict, health authorities said on Wednesday.

PESHAWAR: A third case of mpox was confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Director of Public Health.

The patient was transferred from Peshawar Airport to Police Services Hospital after showing symptoms. The public health laboratory later confirmed the mpox virus.

The Director of Public Health, Dr Arshad Roghani, reported that the patient, was in good condition and receiving treatment at Police Services Hospital.

The patient hails from the Orakzai tribal district and had traveled abroad, where he contracted the disease.

The total number of mpox cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has now reached three this year.
