LAHORE: : Police have detained three people, including the owner of a tuition centre, after a female student was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the facility in Lahore’s Ichhra area.

According to police, the student’s body was handed over to her family after a post-mortem examination. Investigators have taken the tuition centre owner and two other individuals into custody, and questioning is ongoing.

The preliminary post-mortem report stated that the student had a clear ligature mark around her neck and that the apparent cause of death was hanging. The report added that no visible signs of physical violence or forced assault were found on her body.

Police said the washroom where the body was discovered was not locked. According to the initial investigation, the victim’s younger sister first attempted to open the washroom door, but when it did not open, her elder sister arrived and opened the door, where she found the body.

The first information report (FIR) was lodged under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s father. According to the FIR, the complainant said he was informed by a man that his daughter had fallen unconscious. She was immediately taken to hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. The FIR also states that the father noticed marks around his daughter’s neck and alleged that she had been unlawfully killed by unidentified individuals.

Authorities said a final opinion on the cause and manner of death will only be issued after forensic and chemical examiner reports are received. Police added that fingerprints and other evidence collected from the scene have been sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis as the investigation continues.
