Thunderstorm plunges Islamabad in darkness

ISLAMABAD: A powerful thunderstorm has disrupted the electrical supply to significant portions of Islamabad causing widespread power outages in the capital city.

The thunderstorm resulted in the uprooting of numerous trees, prompting motorcyclists and pedestrians to seek shelter under available shades.

Earlier on Sunday, The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) anticipated scattered rains in the twin cities.

The PMD stated that in accordance with the synoptic conditions, continental air dominated most of Pakistan, while a shallow westerly wave lingered over the northern regions.

The PMD officials said that warm and humid weather was expected across most of the country for the following two days. However, isolated rain-thunderstorm activity was projected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during that period.

The officials said that Rawalpindi would experience partly cloudy conditions with isolated rain, and maximum temperatures would remain between 34-36 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday.

In Islamabad, partly cloudy weather with light rainfall was anticipated, and maximum temperatures ranged from 35-37°C on Monday and 34-36°C on Tuesday.
