Tim David’s explosive knock powers Bengaluru to big win

NEW DELHI:  Tim David delivered a stunning power-hitting performance to guide Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a commanding 43-run victory over Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League on Sunday.

The 30-year-old Australian remained unbeaten on 70 off just 25 balls, smashing eight sixes as Bengaluru posted a massive total and secured their second consecutive win of the season.

During his innings, David produced a remarkable 106-metre six that landed on the roof of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, leaving spectators in awe.

Speaking after the match, David said the shot was something he had practiced during training sessions.

“We have competitions during practice to try and hit the roof from the side pitches. To manage that in a match was good fun,” he said.

Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar also played a key role, scoring an unbeaten 48 off 19 balls and setting the stage for a strong finish.

David accelerated the innings further, including a 30-run over against Jamie Overton, which featured four sixes.

Chasing a daunting target of 251, Chennai Super Kings managed 207 before being bowled out with two balls remaining.

Chennai head coach Stephen Fleming said his side was in contention until the final overs.

“We were ahead until about five overs to go, but then they accelerated rapidly. That is where the game slipped away,” he said.

With this victory, Bengaluru moved to the top of the points table with a superior net run rate, ahead of Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings.

Chennai, on the other hand, suffered their third consecutive defeat and dropped to the bottom of the standings.
