Timothee Chalamet was notably absent in person from the first major Dune: Part Three trailer launch in Los Angeles, with the actor instead appearing through a pre-recorded video message just two days after losing the best actor Oscar to Michael B. Jordan. Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anya Taylor-Joy and Javier Bardem were among the stars who attended the event with director Denis Villeneuve.
The timing of the no-show is likely to draw fresh attention, coming straight after a bruising end to Chalamet’s awards run. The actor had been one of the season’s major contenders for Marty Supreme, but his Oscars campaign ended without the top prize as Jordan won for Sinners.

Although he did not join his castmates on stage, Chalamet still addressed the audience in a recorded message. He reflected on the years-long journey behind the trilogy, saying the process began in 2018 and stretched across more than 150 filming days, while also praising Villeneuve’s dedication to bringing the three-film saga to the screen.
His absence left the spotlight on the rest of the ensemble as Zendaya, Pattinson, Taylor-Joy and Bardem helped unveil the first look at the final chapter. Florence Pugh and Jason Momoa also appeared virtually, underscoring the scale of the event even without the franchise’s central star there in person.
What the ‘Dune: Part Three’ trailer reveals
The newly released trailer offers the first proper look at Villeneuve’s final Dune film, which is based on Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah and takes the story 17 years beyond the events of Dune: Part Two. Chalamet’s Paul Atreides is now shown as a more hardened emperor confronting the consequences of his rise to power.
The footage teases a major shift in the story, including Paul and Chani’s future family, a stronger role for Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan and the arrival of Robert Pattinson as the villainous Scytale. Jason Momoa is also set to return, while the film is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
With anticipation around the franchise already running high, Chalamet’s decision to skip the launch in person only adds another layer of intrigue, especially so soon after his Oscars disappointment. The trailer may have shifted attention back to Dune, but his absence is certain to keep fans talking.
