Singer-songwriter Tom Fletcher will share the stage with his 11-year-old son Buzz for the first time on television during this year’s BBC Children in Need Appeal Show on Friday, 14 November.

According to an article published by BBC News on Thursday, the father-son duo will perform “Thread of Hope” accompanied by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The song, written by Tom Fletcher, features in the new 25-minute animated film arriving on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this December.

The story explores themes of connection, kindness, and togetherness, aiming to inspire families to share meaningful moments while watching.

Ahead of their televised debut, listeners can hear Thread of Hope for the first time on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show with Scott Mills at 8:00 AM on Thursday, 13 November. Shortly after, Tom and Buzz will appear on BBC Breakfast at 8:30 AM to discuss the project and preview the animation. A special clip from the film will also be broadcast during the live Appeal Show performance.

Pudsey and the Thread of Hope, written by Fletcher, follows Jai, a young boy coping with the loss of his father, who embarks on a heartfelt journey to rediscover hope and courage. Along the way, they encounter other children linked by a golden thread of kindness, symbolising the power of friendship and emotional connection. The story echoes BBC Children in Need’s mission to ensure every child has someone to turn to in difficult times.

Reflecting on the upcoming performance, Tom Fletcher said, “When I was invited to perform a song from the animation with my son for the very first time, I knew it was something truly special. Sharing that moment together will be incredibly meaningful.”

He added, “Everyone needs a thread of hope, and I hope this performance, along with the animation and book, helps raise vital funds and awareness for children who need support and connection most.”

Buzz Fletcher said, “I’m so excited to be performing alongside my dad for the first time on TV. I’ve seen how hard he’s worked on the animation and the book, and I feel really proud to be part of such a brilliant cause.”
