Tornado watch issued for Central Alabama as heavy rain raises flooding concerns

ALABAMA: A Tornado Watch has been issued for parts of Central Alabama as widespread heavy rain and strong thunderstorms move through the region, increasing the risk of flooding and severe weather.

The regional meteorological department announced the Tornado Watch on Friday, saying that it will remain in effect until 10 am Saturday. Officials have designated this timeframe as “First Warning Impact Days,” highlighting the potential for weather conditions to disrupt daily activities.

In a statement, the department said, “We declare a First Warning Impact Day because of weather that could be impactful to your normal daily routine.”

Forecasters warn that the two-day weather period could bring heavy rainfall capable of causing flash flooding, along with isolated severe storms. These storms may produce damaging winds and a brief tornado or two within the Tornado Watch area.

Residents in Central Alabama are urged to monitor weather updates closely, remain alert for possible warnings, and avoid unnecessary travel to reduce the risk of weather-related hazards.
