Toshakhana Case: PTI lawyers to appeal in higher courts

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) lawyers Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Senator Ali Zafar voicing their reservations against the verdict of the accountability court against PTI founding member Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case said that the decision will be appealed in the higher courts.

 PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Biba have been sentenced to 14 in prison in the Toshakhana  reference, while the court also disqualified PTI founder for 10 years. A fine of Rs1.5730 billion has also been imposed on them.

Speaking to the media after the accountability court’s verdict, PTI leader Barrister Ali Zafar stated that during the trial, the lawyers of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were not allowed to cross-examine them in any way. They were also not allowed to present their witnesses.

Senator Ali Zafar of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and member of the legal team, Barrister Ali Zafar, said; “We were ready for such a decision in the Tosha Khana case, now we will appeal against it”.

The sentence cannot be pronounced without recording the statement, but this was not considered in this case, the same had happened in the cypher case yesterday, he added.

Barrister further said that they knew the judgment would come like this and they were ready for it. Now they will file an application to get a copy of the judgment after which an appeal seeking to suspend the judgment will be filed.

Ali Zafar told that Article 10A, the constitution and law have been violated. This is a mistrial, therefore there is no doubt that this sentence will be suspended

 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan while reacting to the 14-year sentence of PTI founder Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case said that the accountability court had never given such a decision in the past. This is unfair, people will take revenge for every injustice by voting on February 8.

Barrister Gohar stated that sentences are being pronounced to please a leader. The cross-examination was not allowed in the presence of a lawyer.

He added, ‘In the statement of 342 we said that we want to produce witnesses which was not allowed. We will file an application in the High Court against the sentence’.

Gohar Ali Khan further said that Bushra Bibi has nothing to do with Toshakhana case, she did not take any gift personally. Imran Khan’ wife has been punished for putting pressure on him.

The leader of Tehreek-e-Insaf also stated that that their right to defense was also removed in the Toshakhana case. They hope that justice will be given by the Supreme Court.

Barrister Gohar continued to say that PTI people should remain calm, this punishment will end. Fully participate in the elections, these decisions will not sustain because they are being targeted for political revenge.
