Trial service of electric buses starts in Federal Capital

ISLAMABAD: In a landmark move towards sustainable urban transportation, the Federal Capital Islamabad has commenced the trial service of electric buses.

This inaugural experimental service began on Monday and is operating on feeder route number four, which connects PIMS Hospital to Quaid-e-Azam University. These eco-friendly, light blue electric buses are scheduled to run every 10 minutes along this route.

During the trial period, passengers are not yet permitted to board the buses. The buses start their journey from PIMS Hospital, making stops at Radio Colony, Satara Market, Melody, Aabpara, NADRA Chowk and Serena Hotel before reaching their final destination at Quaid-e-Azam University.

The official bus service is slated to commence on July 1, coinciding with the new financial year. It is anticipated that the service will be free for the public during the initial days, after which a nominal fare of Rs.50 will be introduced.

Additionally, the trial service has extended to another feeder route that will serve the university area, passing through Karachi Company, G-10, and G-11 Markezs, ultimately reaching NUST University.

This initiative has been met with great enthusiasm, particularly from senior citizens, students, and women, who will benefit significantly from the modern, convenient, and pollution-free transportation option for commuting to schools, colleges, universities, and offices.

It is important to note that Islamabad already has established Green Line and Blue Line bus services organized by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). The Green Line operates from PIMS Hospital, while the Blue Line extends from PIMS to Gulberg. Overall, 14 feeder routes have been approved, with four currently operational and the remaining 10 to be activated in phases.

These electric buses, procured from China, are part of a consignment of 160 buses, with 30 buses already delivered to Islamabad. This eco-friendly initiative by the CDA aims to provide modern travel facilities and enhance the urban transportation infrastructure in the capital.

The introduction of electric buses marks a significant step towards a greener future, reducing pollution and noise, and contributing to the overall well-being of Islamabad’s residents.
