WEB DESK: A girl in the US state of Pennsylvania has admitted that she accused a stranger and an innocent man of abduction and rape, and sent him to jail simply because he found her ‘creepy’.

The 20-year-old, Anjela Borisova Orumwa, had alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a 41-year-old man named Daniel Pearson outside a supermarket on April 16. But the allegation was proven false and the girl herself has now been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

At the time of the allegation, Orumwa had a cut lip, which she attributed to the assault. However, later she confessed to the police that she got the injury from an object that her grandmother had thrown at her. The girl’s grandmother reportedly suffers from dementia and had thrown the object when Orumwa walked into their home.

Following this allegation, local police arrested Daniel Pearson and started an investigation. However, after examining CCTV footage of the alleged incident and the girl’s phone data, the police found several inconsistencies in the girl’s statement and the available evidence.

After the filing of the complaint, Pearson was charged with multiple felony offenses and remained incarcerated for 31 days. Charges were withdrawn after investigation concluded that Orumwa had fabricated the allegations.

Later, during police interrogation, she also confessed that she had seen the man only once near the market. She pled guilty to “one count each of false alarm to an agency of public safety and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, two counts of false reports and three counts of unsworn falsification to authorities,” prosecutors said.

The District Attorney’s office said that Orumwa will be sentenced on March 21, and she is facing up to 17 years in prison.
