The Trump administration is reportedly preparing for the potential collapse of Cuba’s current government this summer, according to a report by US news outlet Axios.
Citing American officials, Axios said contingency planning is underway in anticipation of possible instability on the island nation. The report added that US authorities have also reviewed new military response plans to address any outbreak of disorder should the situation deteriorate.
However, the outlet noted that President Donald Trump has not authorised any military action in Cuba at this stage. Officials stressed that the administration’s approach remains focused on managing potential scenarios rather than initiating intervention.
According to the report, President Trump is said to support a peaceful political transition in Cuba, rather than direct military involvement. The planning, officials said, is intended to prepare for a range of possible developments rather than signal an imminent operation.
The report did not provide further details on the nature of the contingency plans or specific triggers being considered by US authorities.
Cuba has long remained a sensitive issue in US foreign policy, with relations between Washington and Havana fluctuating over decades amid sanctions, diplomatic tensions and calls for political reform.
