WEB DESK: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said the situation in Iran was “very bad” and that he was fully aware of what was unfolding inside the country. Speaking to the media, Trump said he could not discuss his defence strategy publicly.
He also advised American citizens in Iran to leave the country, suggesting they travel via Turkey or Armenia for their safety.
Iran blames US and Israel for protest-related deaths
At the United Nations, Iran’s deputy permanent representative accused the United States and Israel of being responsible for deaths during recent protests in Iran.
The Iranian envoy said President Trump’s statements and actions amounted to interference in Iran’s internal affairs, alleging that Washington was actively fuelling violence and undermining the country’s sovereignty.
Iranian ambassador writes to Security Council
In a letter addressed to the UN Security Council, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative Amir Saeid Iravani said President Trump was inciting political instability and violence in Iran, and endangering the country’s national security.
Iravani alleged that US and Israeli actions had led to civilian casualties, and warned that Washington was seeking a pretext for military intervention.
‘Regime change agenda will fail again,’ Iran says
The Iranian ambassador further claimed that US policy towards Iran was aimed at regime change, adding that sanctions, threats and the promotion of unrest were being used as justifications to advance this objective.
“This plan to spread chaos will fail once again,” Iravani said, reaffirming Iran’s position that foreign pressure and interference would not succeed in destabilising the country.
