Trump describes meeting with Xi Jinping as ‘great,’ signals possible alignment on Iran issue

CALIFORNIA: US President Donald Trump described his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping as “a great meeting,” suggesting a possible alignment on the Iran issue as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate after the US rejected Iran’s response to a recent deal proposal.

Speaking to reporters in California, Trump called Xi a “great guy” and expressed hope that Beijing may support his position on key issues related to Iran. He also indicated that he believes Xi could be receptive to closer coordination on the matter.

During his interview, the president went on to make a series of broad foreign policy remarks, claiming that various international actors are involved in efforts related to Iran. He described those who operate in the region as “brave,” adding that he also considers himself brave in dealing with complex global challenges.

Reflecting on past US military engagements, Trump referenced American involvement in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, saying these interventions were aimed at “saving people” and stabilising countries over long periods of time. He further said that US forces had effectively “taken over” many of the countries where they were deployed.

Turning to Iran, Trump claimed the country is “completely destroyed” and added that major changes could be expected in the coming years under his vision.

He also briefly mentioned US law enforcement institutions, praising people working within the FBI and Department of Justice.
