Trump urges Iran to release eight detained women ahead of talks

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday urged Iran to release unnamed women ahead of expected negotiations between Tehran and US representatives in Islamabad

“To the Iranian leaders, who will soon be in negotiations with my representatives: I would greatly appreciate the release of these women,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

“I am sure that they will respect the fact that you did so. Please do them no harm,” he added, describing the move as “a great start” to upcoming talks.

Trump did not provide further details about the women or the timing of the expected negotiations. Soem media reports claimed that Iran was all set to execute the eight detained women on unspecified charges.

Iranian authorities have not yet responded to the statement.
