TTAP announces participation in PTI’s October 4 protest march

ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek Tahafuz Aain Pakistan (TTAP) has backed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) October 4 march on Islamabad, announcing that it would participate in the protest.

According to TTAP spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain Ahmed Yousafzai, the opposition group would participate in the October 4 march as PTI is part of the alliance.

Yousafzai said that the opposition alliance’s leadership had unanimously declared the September 27 protest call a joint call and had also finalised a strategy for protests in Sindh and Balochistan.

He said that detailed consultations had also been held with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and PTI leadership over the (postponed) September 27 march.

The TTAP spokesperson said the KP chief minister had clarified in his statement that the decision regarding the postponement of the September 27 was taken by PTI’s political committee.

He said that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had approached opposition leaders before the political committee announced its decision.

According to Yousafzai, opposition alliance leaders had told Barrister Gohar that every day from September 27 onwards was important for them and that the importance of time could not be ignored in the prevailing political situation.

He said that barrister Gohar had also been told that the opportunity would not come again and that the prevailing circumstances were crucial for the country’s democratic future and the supremacy of the Constitution.

Yousafzai said that the opposition alliance had already consulted on its protest strategy, while contacts among allied parties would continue over the future course of action.

He said that the TTAP and its allied parties would participate in the October 4 march and that coordination and consultations among the parties were under way.

Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi offered talks to the federal government, saying those seeking contact still had seven days to resolve the issue through negotiations.
