WEB DESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast predominantly dry and cold conditions across much of the country over the coming days.
According to the department, continental air is prevailing over most regions, resulting in chilly mornings and cool nights. In the federal capital, Islamabad, as well as the hill stations of Murree and the adjoining Galiyat region, weather is expected to remain dry with cold temperatures, particularly during early morning and nighttime hours.
Cold conditions are also likely to persist in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, where residents have been experiencing low temperatures. In Balochistan, most districts are forecast to remain cold and dry, with no significant rainfall expected.
Meanwhile, air quality has deteriorated in Lahore, which ranked second among the world’s most polluted cities on Tuesday. The city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 225, placing it in the “very unhealthy” category. The highest pollution level was observed in the Thokar Niaz Baig area, where the AQI surged to 568.
Despite persistent smog, there has been a slight reduction in the intensity of the cold in Lahore. The maximum temperature in the provincial capital is expected to reach around 28 degrees Celsius, offering relatively warmer daytime conditions compared to previous days. Authorities have advised citizens, particularly children, the elderly and those with respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor activities amid the elevated pollution levels.
