WEB DESK: A Turkish Airlines flight bound for Islamabad made an emergency landing at Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport after encountering a technical fault in Azerbaijani airspace. All passengers and crew members on board the aircraft are safe, and a technical inspection has been initiated to rectify the issue.
According to aviation sources, Turkish Airlines flight TK-710 had departed from Istanbul and was scheduled to land at Islamabad International Airport at 3:35pm Pakistan Standard Time.
However, while flying through Azerbaijani airspace, the Airbus A330 aircraft experienced a disruption in its Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals.
Data from flight-tracking website Flightradar24 indicated that the pilot declared an emergency as a precautionary measure following the signal failure and requested a diversion to the nearest safe airport.
Technical inspection underway
Upon receiving instructions from air traffic control, the pilot safely landed the aircraft in the Azerbaijani capital. Following the landing, all passengers were safely disembarked and transferred to the airport terminal, where they were provided with necessary assistance. An engineering team has commenced a comprehensive inspection and repair work on the aircraft to resolve the technical fault so that the flight can resume its journey.
