Two cops, three civilians injured in Swabi firing


Swabi policemen injured in firing

SWABI: At least two policemen and three civilians were injured when unidentified gunmen attacked a police station in the Khanda Mor area of Swabi district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Thursday.

According to the police, the assailants opened fire on the police station and fled the scene. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The police said they have launched a search operation to arrest the culprits.

Meanwhile, the Swabi police claimed that they have arrested some suspects involved in the killing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) district vice president Shah Khalid, who was gunned down by two men on January 11.

Rise in attacks on law enforcers

Pakistan has seen a surge in targeted attacks on law enforcement personnel in recent days. On January 9, policemen guarding a polio vaccination team were ambushed by unknown attackers in Bannu, KP.

On January 8, a blast near a police van in Bajaur killed five policemen and injured 20 others. The outlawed militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack.
