LAHORE: A man was arrested after allegedly throwing acid on two people at a pan shop in Lahore’s Shahdara Town area, leaving one victim severely injured, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred at a pan shop where the suspect, identified as Yasir Mahmood, allegedly hurled acid at two individuals before fleeing the scene.
A 26-year-old man, identified as Shafiq, suffered severe burns in the attack, while a 17-year-old youth, Asla Jan, sustained acid-related injuries to his arm. Both victims were immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police said a case had been registered against the suspect at Shahdara Town Police Station under relevant provisions relating to acid violence and other offences.
Following the incident, law enforcement personnel launched an operation and arrested Yasir Mahmood. Authorities said an investigation was underway to determine the motive behind the attack and gather further evidence. The incident comes amid renewed concern over acid-related violence in Pakistan following a separate acid attack on a female doctor at a hospital in Quetta yesterday. Police said further legal proceedings against the suspect would continue as the investigation progresses.
