LAHORE: Lahore police have arrested two men for murdering their mother and dumping her body after she refused to give them money.

Police said that the human skeleton was recovered a few days ago from the Kahna area.

According to investigators, the remains found in the Audit and Accounts Society were identified as those of a woman named Margret, who was strangled to death by her two sons before they disposed of the body.

During the search, police also discovered a buried shopping bag nearby containing some cash and electricity bills.

Using information from the bills, police traced the home address and learned that Margret had been reported missing.

Her sons, Shafiq James and Nabeel James, were later taken into custody who confessed during interrogation to killing their mother after she refused to give them money.

The suspects admitted they placed her body in a rickshaw and dumped it near fields. Margret, who worked in people’s homes, had saved Rs50,000.

Police sources said the brothers were addicted to crystal meth (ice) and had demanded money from their mother to buy drugs.

When she refused, they strangled her in anger and dumped the body. Police said further investigation was under way.

Earlier, two prime suspects in the murder of two brothers over a Rs30 dispute were shot dead in a police encounter during a Counter Crime Department (CCD) raid in the Chohang area last night.

According to CCD officials, the operation was part of an ongoing effort to apprehend accomplices in the killing of 28-year-old Rashid and his 22-year-old brother Wajid, who were attacked by fruit vendors on August 21 in the Bhamba area of Raiwind.

The encounter took place when CCD officers, acting on intelligence, raided a location to arrest more suspects. During the operation, accomplices of the detainees allegedly opened fire on the police team in an attempt to free them. In the exchange of fire, two prime accused, Owais and Shahzad, were killed.
