UAE to bolster military sovereignty with new Abu Dhabi defence industrial zone

WEB DESK: The United Arab Emirates has unveiled ambitious plans to establish a dedicated defence industrial free zone in Abu Dhabi, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s drive toward military self-sufficiency and industrial diversification.

Located in Al Selmiyyah, the new hub is the result of a strategic partnership between the Tawazun Council the government body tasked with defence procurement and industry development and the AD Ports Group, according to Khaleej Times.

The initiative is designed to create a world-class ecosystem for global manufacturers, offering a streamlined environment to produce advanced military hardware on Emirati soil.

By integrating cutting-edge infrastructure with a competitive regulatory framework, the project aims to attract international original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

This move is expected to facilitate significant knowledge transfer, create high-skilled jobs for UAE nationals, and integrate local suppliers into the global defence value chain.

Strategic collaboration and regulatory oversight

The operational framework of the Al Selmiyyah zone rests on a clear division of expertise.
