RAWALPINDI: Sri Lanka set Pakistan a target of 183 runs in the first T20 International at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday, posting 182-8 in their allotted 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat first.

Lahiru Udara led Sri Lanka’s batting with an impressive 91 off 55 balls, striking 11 fours and a six to give the visitors a strong total. He narrowly missed out on a century as Pakistan’s bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals.

Kamindu Mendis contributed 23 off 18 balls, while captain Dasun Shanaka scored 18 off 15 deliveries. The remaining batters struggled to make substantial contributions as Pakistan restricted Sri Lanka to 182.

Fast bowler Naseem Shah was Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker, claiming three wickets for 36 runs in his four overs. Muhammad Imran Randhawa took two wickets for 21 runs, while Shadab Khan, Saim Ayub and Razaullah claimed one wicket apiece.

Sri Lanka also benefited from 29 extras, including 18 wides and a no-ball, adding to Pakistan’s bowling workload.

Pakistan now need 183 runs in 20 overs to win the opening match of the three-game series. The remaining two T20Is are scheduled to be played at the same venue on October 11 and 13.
