LONDON: British (United Kingdom) weather services have warned that Wales and other parts of the UK could face a 20-day period of heavy rain in the lead-up to Christmas.
Authorities predict that the festive season may see a series of wet weather systems sweeping in from the Atlantic, potentially causing chaos on roads and creating hazardous driving conditions.
Sources say that two main factors–the onset of winter and the effects of climate change–are expected to contribute to these conditions. The warning came just hours after the Met Office issued a “danger to life” alert for parts of Wales and England in anticipation of heavy rainfall.
“The main concern at the moment is the rain, which starts today. Over the next 20 days, the weather will be dominated by Atlantic-driven low-pressure systems with associated frontal systems bringing heavy rainfall, particularly to western areas.
“Rainfall is expected to be well above average in Wales, western England, and northwest England, tapering off further east.
“From today onwards, people in western regions need to stay vigilant due to rising rivers and hazardous driving conditions.”
