Security Council

WEB DESK: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has issued a firm condemnation of the deadly terrorist attacks that struck multiple locations across Balochistan on January 31 describing them as “heinous and cowardly acts of terrorism.”

In a press statement released on Tuesday, the 15-member Council expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and extended its condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Government and people of Pakistan. The UNSC also wished those injured in the attacks a swift and full recovery.

The statement reflects that “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations remains one of the gravest threats to international peace and security.” It called for the immediate identification and prosecution of those responsible including planners, financiers, and sponsors stressing the need to bring them to justice without delay.

The Council urged all UN member states to extend full cooperation to Pakistan in accordance with international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. It reiterated that “no act of terrorism can ever be justified, regardless of its motivation, timing, or the identity of the perpetrators.”

The UNSC further emphasised that all states are obligated to combat terrorism through lawful means, in full compliance with the UN Charter and international obligations, including international human rights, refugee, and humanitarian law.

China Voices Solidarity

Echoing the international stance, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian condemned the attacks in the strongest terms and reaffirmed Beijing’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s fight against terrorism.

“We deeply mourn the lives lost and extend our sincere sympathies to the injured and the bereaved families,” Lin said, adding that China would continue to stand firmly with Pakistan in its counterterrorism efforts.

Security Forces Intensify Operations
