Unidentified drones spotted over Pentagon building housing top officials

US authorities have detected unidentified drones flying above Fort McNair in Washington, a military installation where Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reside, according to a report by The Washington Post.

Citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, the report said officials have yet to determine the origin of the drones. The sightings have raised security concerns, prompting discussions about potentially relocating the two senior officials.

Despite those considerations, both Rubio and Hegseth remain at the base, a senior administration official told the newspaper.

The incident comes as the US military increases vigilance amid heightened tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Officials have not publicly confirmed the details, and both the Pentagon and State Department have yet to comment. A Pentagon spokesperson declined to discuss the situation, citing security concerns and criticising the disclosure of sensitive movements.
